Introducing Chelsea Ma, a bicoastal lifestyle blogger you’ll certainly want to be BFFs with. With her killer sense of personal style that’s always on point, and complimentary to her classy demeanor, she’s just as good wielding a camera as she is posing for it! (yes Chelsea- I adore you!) Considerably, I couldn’t help but track her down for a 1-on-1 about her bi-coastal blogging adventures.

Tune in below for my exclusive chat with Chelsea about her recent move from Seattle to New York.

Chelsea Ma in NYC: “How every street corner was a show in itself, how people worked towards their dreams and made their dreams reality. Those moments made me realize New York without a doubt was the right place for me to move to!”

Yasmin Yusuff: What attracted you to NYC?
Chelsea Ma: I had always known I wanted to become a fashion designer or be involved in the fashion industry growing up, and in high school I realized New York was the place to kickstart my career. I visited New York a few years back and remembered being pulled into amazement by how unforgivingly outspoken the city was. How every street corner was a show in itself, how people worked towards their dreams and made their dreams reality. Those moments made me realize New York without a doubt was the right place for me to move to!

YY: Has New York City’s vibe had an influence on the way you dress, act, and interact with others?
CM: Since coming here from Seattle I’ve learned that you can wear what you want whenever you want as long as you have confidence. When you walk down the streets of New York, you see people wearing obscure things, or completely trend on outfits. But they all have one thing in common, which is that they rock what they wear because they have confidence! This has influenced me to be more confident about clothing trends or non clothing trends. For me the biggest “trend” that has really influenced me in the past few years is sustainable fashion, and that has led me majoring in fashion design specifically studying sustainable fashion.

YY: What is one stereotype that people in your hometown have of New Yorkers?
CM: People in my home town Seattle think New Yorkers all have an accent. But coming here I realized so much of the population that lives in New York, isn’t even from New York!

YY: What do you do in your free time to enjoy the city?
CM: I love to take pictures of the city. There’s so much to see on every corner! If I’m not taking photos, going to school or working, you can probably find me in a coffee shop listening to music. I love to people watch in coffee shops as creepy as that sounds, but that has been a favorite past time of mine!

YY: Sum up New York City in one sentence.

CM: The most spectacular, magically, disgusting, surprising, loving, generous, crowded city in the world. 🙂
