How to catch your breathe, get your life together, and toast to the Summer you deserve!

The worst feeling in the world is being all over the place, not having your ‘-ish’ together. Feeling that society’s expectations of you are at their highest requirement, but you’re so out of order that you can’t even hear your own pulse! This is torture at it’s finest.

Who are we fooling? Why do we kill ourselves putting on such facades?

Could it be because we’re living in a translucent society of new standards that have become nothing less than a corruption of our own personal ideas on where we ‘should’ be, and roads we MUST take to get there? I digress on this having anything to do with gender, race, lifestyle, or culture, but everything to do with influences on blurring lines between free speech & public opinion, and the newfound, but unspoken ‘rights’ and ‘wrongs’ of society. A shift in standards and new normals. The perfect diversion to a life of peace and stability based on someone else thought I should or should not be doing.

Screen Shot 2015-07-10 at 5.31.42 PMWhen I first moved to New York City, I was beyond eager, anxious and excited to be dwelling on a new adventure. I was so ‘focused’ on settling here that I overlooked the value of a quality life, of living well. Peace of mind meant nothing more than going to bed knowing that I was pursuing my dream. FOCUSED. I was on my way to being the ‘real deal’ of my career. No more imperial fantasies, gazing in the mirror of my childhood bedroom in Baltimore. Bump finally getting to a place- in one of the roughest cities in America- where I was living a nice, plush, and comfortable life, to living in a basement apartment in Bushwick Brooklyn. This with the occasional mouse and cockroaches the size of a quarter, plus waking up not knowing what time of day it was because I slept in a windowless room. Again, I was ‘focused.’

The worst feeling in the world is being all over the place, not having your ‘-ish’ together. Feeling that society’s expectations of you are at their highest requirement, but you’re so out of order that you can’t even hear your own pulse! Torture at it’s finest.

Overall quality of life for people has gone down because we are so overwhelmed with excess opinions and points-of-views. Distraction. Some kind of way, I recently noticed that this way of living had trickled down into my value system and had slowly become the norm for my ‘road to my dream.’ Roughing it up because, “that was just the way that it had to be”, I thought. This was normal New York City life. Torturing myself by way of another person’s standard. Well I’ll be damned.

Living in a major city has drained me, and robbed me of peace more times than I can count on my fingers. I never gave up though. And though I’m coming out of a rough season of living by others’ opinions, stereotypes, and standards, I still don’t give in! My rationality has reached a new level, a less forgiving state.

There comes a point in life where we’ve all got to step back to step up. Catch your breathe and get your life together. Shut-up to shift-up. Ignore the hype and create your own stereotypes. Let go of those fluctuating behaviors and stop having grace over situations that knock you twenty steps backward. That ‘-ish’ isn’t normal.

Lets slow it down, catch our breath, and get our lives together.

Cheers to the Summer that we all deserve.
