Discovery of the Week: 3 reasons why you should be at the Downtown Brooklyn Arts Festival this weekend

Brooklyn is the epicenter of art and creativity. That’s why Brooklyn’s arts institutions worked together to organize the first ever Downtown Brooklyn Arts Festival. A weekend of theater, poetry, dance, music and other performances.

We give you three reasons why the Downtown Brooklyn Arts Festival is where you should be this weekend:

1. Life of the Party

Brooklyn is going to be the life of the party this weekend. The Arts Festival will turn the entire downtown neighborhood into one big celebration for the arts. According to Downtown Brooklyn Partnership President Regina Myer, the theme of the festival is “all about bringing together the vibrant institutions artists and spaces that make up the fabric of Downtown Brooklyn.”

2. Packed schedule

The festival wants to radiate the borough’s creative spirit and inspire the local community. The impressive schedule is packed with the most interesting performances, from late night salsa dance parties to instrumental performances and poetry readings. On Sunday, Orange Is the New Black star Samira Wiley will present a reading of one of Martin Luther King Jr’s sermons, accompanied by a choir. We definitely expect this performance to be one of the highlights of festival. Absorb the borough’s creative vibes, get inspired and enjoy a beautiful weekend downtown Brooklyn.

3. Rain or shine

The festival runs from Friday, September 21 through Sunday, September 23. The weather is always unpredictable, but the festival organizers pointed out that the festival will take place either way, rain or shine.

We’re really looking forward to see the performances of the first ever Downtown Brooklyn Arts Festival, but something tells us this can’t go wrong.

You can find the entire schedule of the festival here.
