Art Students Turn NYC’s Subway into Hilarious Artwork

New York city’s subway is a fascinating world all on its own and it recently got sparked up with a hilarious pop-up museum that’s sure to brighten up your morning commute to work.
Small cardboard signs similar to ones in museums have been popping up at stops across Manhattan and Brooklyn, turning subway stations into hilarious artwork. The witty titles and captions frame the subway system’s tiles, furniture and floors into works of art, documenting the struggles and hilarious truths of everyday commuting. Innovative, and sure to make your commuting days a little more entertaining.
Two anonymous New York art students are behind the underground pop-up artwork that’s been buzzing all over the city and on social media the last couple of weeks. Intrigued by MTA’s old history, the duo thought of a creative way to draw positive attention to one of the oldest and most impressive subway systems in the country, that unfortunately often only gets associated with negative feelings. Well, taking NYC’s subway just became a whole lot more alluring.
In Bedford, well-worn wooden benches turned into the artwork ‘Butt Pattern’, while the subway tracks became a live installation titled ‘Of Mice and Men’, capturing the ‘essence of the daily NY hustle in a literal rat race’. Mocking the abundance of insects, urine and trash is key to the artists’ compositions.
Next time you’re on the subway platform waiting for your train, make sure to look up from your phone and appreciate the enormous art museum you’re currently standing in.
To see all of the artists’ artwork, you can follow them on their official Instagram, where they capture every one of their art pieces.
