As our official ode to New York Fashion Week, we stepped out and braved this season’s coldness namely to support brands powered by key words like: sustainability, diversity, and culture.
Precisely befitting was Studio 189’s Fall/Winter 19’ collection, co-found by actress and activist Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah.
That Monday, we braved pesky security guards, crowded guest-list and backed-up elevator lines for an first-hand look at the social enterprise’s newest collection. Described by Dawson as their “Sunday Best” collection, the Fall and Winter looks flowed to life through signature plant based dye indigos, hand-batik, kente weaving, and as equally important, a perfectly diverse casting. Captured by the work of visual artist Mariusz Brozek, we couldn’t think of a better way to kick off our Monday afternoon than to celebrate Studio 189 as an social enterprise, and their deep support of African-inspired content and clothing.
There’s no better way to revive the energy of New York Fashion Week than through an vibrant brand powered by sustainability, diversity and culture.
